About the Event
The Brother Peter Mannion Grant Program was established many years ago. Â It honors the late Brother Peter Mannion, an FSSPJS Trustee and the President of CBA and the guiding light behind the program. Â For many years, he chaired the Grant Program and conducted the Awards.
The purpose of the Grant Program is to award $1,000 grants to deserving high school seniors with Irish heritage in Monmouth and Ocean counties. Â At its inception, the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick set a goal of awarding 10 grants each year. Â Through the hard work of the organization in fundraising, the goal for the number of Grants has been increased to 25 each year. Â The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick has awarded over $825,000 in grants since its inception. Â The Ad Journal at the Annual Black Tie Dinner is the primary source of funds for this program. Â Please support this program by taking an ad in our journal. Â Other sources include corporate and individual gifts to the organization. Â This Grant Program is one of the primary objectives and biggest awards of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore.
We receive approximately 200 applications each year from 40 high schools across Monmouth and Ocean counties. Â Each application is reviewed by members of the Grant Selection Committee. The Grant Selection Committee then finalizes and selects the top 25 high school seniors to whom they are going to grant an award.
Upon selection, the top 25 seniors who will be awarded a grant are notified in mid-April.
The Brother Peter Mannion Grant Dinner is held in May of each year and is the culmination of the efforts of the Grant Selection Committee. The grant recipients and family members are invited to our Annual Grant Awards Dinner where we present $1,000 grants to each recipient for their outstanding academic, extracurricular and charitable achievements.
